Summary

Summary

Derelict land can be reclaimed and restored as woodland or public open space, or can be used for agriculture or nature conservation. Although the capital costs of reclamation of derelict land are eligible for government grant aid, the long-term cost of management of the site in perpetuity must be met by the landowner, normally a local authority. This report looks at cost-effective strategies for such management and the extent to which these are affected by the methods and costs of the original reclamation.
